Our fourth Big Ukulele Singalong was a little bit special. Being October, it was Halloween themed, with a horror songbook, fancy dress, decorations and prizes.
Our hosts, The Sip Club did a fantastic job of decorating the room, which was all set with Halloween decorations when we arrived. We’re very lucky to have such supportive hosts, letting us use the common room for our weekly jams and monthly singalongs!
Many people who came down had gone to a lot of effort with their fancy dress outfits, there were lots of brilliant costumes. We had prizes for the scariest, funniest and best outfits of the evening, with some well-deserved winners, see below.
For the first half of the evening, we worked through our horror songbook. The songbook is full of all the Halloween classics of the likes of Ghostbusters, Monster Mash and Thriller. Though there were a few lesser known songs in there too, like Ghost Riders in the Sky, Warewolves of Stretford (our own take on Warren Zevon’s classic) and Zombies Just Wanna Be Loved.
We’ve been practising the songs from the horror songbook in our weekly jams for the past month of so, and it’s fair to say some of songs we’ve found a bit challenging. So we were really pleased with how well everything went down on the night. Songs like (Don’t Fear) the Reaper and Thriller we’ve never managed to play all the way through properly. So it was great to make it through all the songs with no major issues!
After playing all the songs in the horror songbook, we returned to our main songbook for rest of the evening, playing some of our favourites like Space Oddity, A Little Respect, Don’t Stop Believin’ and Living on a Prayer.
It was a fantastic evening and lots of fun. Many thanks to everyone who came along and made so much effort. Next month, our singalong will be back to the usual format. Then we’ll be planning something special for Christmas in December!
